Our Mission

The Sunnyside Chamber is the oldest and most durable organization of it kind in Queens, a 501-C-6 non-profit organization.

Our by-laws begin with the purpose “to develop, encourage, promote and protect the commercial, professional, financial and general business interests and ethics of the area known as Sunnyside, Woodside and Long Island City and promote civic interests and the general welfare of the community…to provide a forum for the reflection of the sentiments of business regarding matters affecting its interests.”

Founded in 1947, we are an independent, non-profit, self-governing, local organization, dedicated to promote and advocate for the well being of local small business, community betterment, and overall quality of life. You are encouraged to bring your or your organization’s card and self promote. Come network, meet local people, make friends, and be a part of your “small town in the big city.”

We are known as being a very active Chamber of Commerce citywide. Active people attract each other making our organization stronger and beneficial for all. For example, businesses that have become local institutions need younger business connections to attract new clientele and keep our neighborhood vibrant; younger businesses need the clout of institutions, networking opportunities of a group, and established businesses to aid credibility and provide the financial stability of the area in which they seek to grow. All of Sunnyside’s groups are, to a degree, interdependent, and we all improve when we each improve.

The longstanding slogan of Sunnyside Chamber, “Small Town in the Big City,” expresses well the friendly culture we strive to keep where businesses can thrive and grow and families and singles can appreciate the proximity of the big city, but live or work in our shared small town.

The Chamber holds four business card exchanges a year in locations aiming to get more traffic over their thresholds, with wine supplied by Lowery Liquors, a neighborhood business since 1937.

At all our functions, you are encouraged to bring your organization’s card and self promote. Come network, meet local people, make friends, and be a part of your neighborhood.

Guided by its voluntary Board of Directors, the Chamber has found that there is a direct correlation between thriving local businesses and a robust connection to the community. By providing resources and a consistent forum for local small businesses, social and civic organizations, religious groups and individuals, we promote an increase in business, friendship, safety, historical preservation, and overall quality of life in our neighborhood.

For members and non-members alike, the Chamber hosts a monthly networking luncheon, every fourthWednesday of the month, at 12:30pm at a different restaurant for ten months a year (check event calendar for location) to showcase the best food in New York City!

All are welcome to attend the multi-course event, generally for a prix fixe of $22, which includes tax and gratuities. Recently, we had had excellent Irish fare at the Copper Kettle, Japanese at Ariyoshi, Indian at Saffron Garden, Romanian at Bucharest, and Peruvian at I Love Paraguay.

The key advantage to the Chamber of Commerce is that membership is inexpensive and open, no matter where your organization is located. We are able to speak independently on matters of concern.

To be added to the Chamber mailing list and receive notices of luncheons and exchanges, email SunnysideChamberofCommerce@gmail.com or come to a lunch and see for yourself.

Anyone can join – businesses, organizations, and residents. Full membership with rights to hold office and vote costs  for corporate membership $250, regular $125 per year. Individual non-voting memberships are $25.

The accomplishments of the Chamber include the Sunnyside Post Office, the formation of Sunnyside Shines Business Development District or BID, parking under the elevated, public parks, sidewalk cafe rezoning, cleaner air statutes, holiday lights on Queens Boulevard, Greenpoint and Skillman Avenues, and hundreds of achievements now taken for granted locally. Come join the Chamber and work on your vision with the help of Sunnyside and Woodside’s best and brightest!

PARTICIPATION of members is encouraged. The Chamber realizes its goals through many members who volunteer for committees, sometimes committees of one. These members give time, labor and knowledge for the common good of all business and the community and include areas such as:
